The Princess Series Part 1- Snow White.

Let me preface this post by saying, that I personally am not a fan of princess stuff. However, my 3 year old is smitten by it. Back when I was pregnant and found out she was a girl, I proclaimed “NO princess stuff!” Well, you know the saying, never say never? lol.

So I’m following her lead, allowing her to pursue her interests, supporting her, BUT giving her my feminist stance on princesses as I’m able to in an age appropriate way. I think it’s a fair compromise.

So this is the first of many fantasy princess sessions. I hope you enjoy them as much as she enjoyed doing them.  As much as I’m not a princess fan, I loved the fantasy nature of creating these.

… and in our version…. Snow White saves herself. And lives happily.

Superhero Photo Shoot

One of the wonderful things about kids is they love to dress up and play the part ! For this session we headed out to the Strathcona Natural Area and played superheros. untitled-7983

Fall in Edmonton

Late one Sunday night, with bedtime looming, I rushed to get all my things done,

For I was hoping and praying to get out for some photography fun.

Sure it sounds easy to snap a few pics,

But sometimes kids don’t cooperate and can be little…..

Under a canopy of the colourful trees,

There was me, down on my  knees,

Baragaining and begging, asking, please please won’t you please look,

Over here, just a few more I promised, of the photos I took.

And in the end, I did get a precious few,

Of these adorable, beautiful, wonderful two.

So next year when fall comes our way,

I’ll be out snapping images of these precious days.

For these wonderful people are only little for just a while,

So I hope these photos do for you, what they do for me, and make you smile.

Lifestyle Shoot – In the Kitchen

I’ve had an idea for a lifestyle shoot in the kitchen for a while now. My dining room walls are bare, and the best way to adorn them are with pictures of my littles. I love lifestyle photography, a general idea, a few props, and the natural fun that this type of session breeds makes for some adorable photos.

Sooooo help me out here…. which ones are your favs to go on the wall?

SNOW !

First real snow of the year, so we headed out to play with one of our little buddies.
He was especially photogenic and happy to be photographed !
One day I’ll have to feature the smaller/younger version of this boy- cuteness clearly runs in this family.
I did manage to get a few of my little man too.  He wasn’t as excited to have his photo taken, which is why I love the challenge of photographing others.
I’m loving the rosey cheeks on these two !

We sure lucked out on weather for today’s family session !  I had a beautiful family of three, at my favorite time of day- nearing sunset.  The little man was such a sweetie- and so generous with his smiles !  I’ll answer two quick questions I know you will have once you see these pics.  1) yes, the fall colours really were that magical and  2) yes, this little man really is THAT absolutely adorably cute !  (ohh those blue eyes !!!)
Enjoy the preview !

Seriously, this gorgeous little face is awesome
Modelling portfolio ?

Quick change of clothes and we were off again !  Who doesn’t love a little man in overalls and boots !  ADORE!!!!

 I love natural moments…..
Coming up on their 5th anniversary- congrats guys !

Family photo shoots have to be one of my favorite types to do.  Maybe it’s because I’m a parent myself, but I always want to capture the love and emotion between parents and their children.  I’ve photographed this family before, and got one of my all time favorite shots of the little man and his dad.  It was an image that I thought just moved me and showed the strong connection between father and son.  This was the image.
Fast forward almost a year ahead.  I was privileged to shoot them again.  They are such a nice family, but it’s funny, I feel an intense need to please this dad with my images more then anyone else I’ve shot.  It’s totally pressure from within because like I said, they are the nicest family.  But I really want him to like these.  I think he’s the dad who will give me honest feedback, will tell me if I got it right or wrong- which I actually really appreciate from a learning perspective.  Hey, as a photographer I want my clients to love the images, and I appreciate them trusting me to capture their family.  So here are a few previews of tonight’s session.  Did I get it right Kev?  🙂

We threw a little outdoor party for the little man’s upcoming third birthday !  Ohh what fun it was !!

September is coming to a close, but the weather here in Kamloops is still pretty good.  This afternoon I had the pleasure of photographing this adorably stylish little dude.  I asked his mom to jump in for a few shots.  As the mother of a boy, I’m partial to these kind of warm, affectionate images.
My favorite has to be this first one.
I love seeing a beautiful smile on a mother’s face as she looks at her happy child.
As a photographer I love to capture that emotion, and as a mother, I hope my son sees that smile and love coming from me to him everyday.

While I was in Calgary I had the opportunity to photograph this sweet little girl.
Little Miss Olivia and my son were born ten days apart.
Her mom and I have known each other since we were both just a few weeks pregnant.
We are part of a very special group of ladies.
Here are some of the images from the session.
(ps- I DARE you not to squish these adorable cheeks ! )
